Dan Friedrich, CISSP – Director

Dan Friedrich is the Executive Director of the Center for Advancement of Health Information Technology(CAHIT) at Dakota State University. Dan is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional with more than 30 years of experience in information assurance and adult technical instruction. Prior positions include Director of Technology Support Services at DSU, Data Network Administrator for the College of Engineering at SDSU, and Data Systems Instructor for the US Navy. Dan regularly speaks at Dakota State University offerings as well as at conferences as a privacy/security expert. Dan is based in Madison, SD and is widely regarded as an expert in network privacy and security issues.

Jan Chambers – Business Operations Manager

Jan ChambersAs the Business Operations Manager, Jan’s duties include contract development and negotiations, budget development and review, business development and planning, as well as proposal writing and vendor coordination. She served as the Director of Marketing for a South Dakota association before joining HealthPOINT. In addition, Jan was the founder and owner of a business that developed advertising, marketing and websites for healthcare providers, accounting firms, banks, schools, and several other industries for over 10 years. She also worked in a hospital setting for a number of years. Her experience as a small business operator and in the healthcare field makes her a valued member of the HealthPOINT team as the organization seeks a sustainable business model. Jan has her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications with an emphasis in Journalism.

Holly Arends, RHIT – Clinical Information Technology Manager

As the Clinical IT Manager for HealthPOINT, Holly manages a team of Clinical IT Leads and Specialists that assists South Dakota healthcare practices with EHR implementations and adoptions.  Holly comes to HealthPOINT with more than fifteen years in the health information field with special emphasis on people and processes.  Most recently, Holly served as a Director of Quality Management for the State Inpatient Psychiatric Facility. She was responsible for the organization’s health information system where she developed and administered a facility wide quality improvement program. In that capacity she also acted as the risk manager and conducted workflow redesign projects.  Holly has also taught Health IT at the college level and her diverse experience includes roles as a phlebotomist, clinical trial researcher, office manager, medical records clerk, and coder. Holly is certified as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association and has an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and Health Informatics.  Holly is based in the Dakota Dunes, SD area and  her comprehensive knowledge of Meaningful Use and Health IT make her an invaluable resource for facilities converting to an EHR.

Kevin Atkins – Engagement Manager

In addition to his duties to deliver direct technical assistance to providers, as Engagement Manager, Kevin is responsible for coordinating and managing the multiple single services and individual small or large interconnected projects. His assessment and outcome-based responsibilities at HealthPOINT draw from his successful experience in IT and as an implementation expert.  Including both clinical and IT industries, Kevin has even participated in multiple site EHR implementations.  Most recently, Kevin served as the General Operations Manager for South Dakota Urban Indian Health where he earned national distinction for his efforts to implement three sites in less than one year.   Kevin is based in the Pierre, SD area and has the ability to break down a complex topic like an implementation into a common-sense approach.

Tara Gill, MSAS – Clinical IT Lead

Tara’s role as a Clinical IT Lead puts special emphasis on her ability to motivate, build morale, manage change and focus on the people involved in a project.  As an experienced health administrator in long-term care, Tara has over 13 years of experience in the mental health industry with a Master’s degree in long term care administration.  Tara has worked in many areas including staff development, admissions, reception, and with the CNA floor staff.  Tara has experience developing and customizing trainings that involve complete culture change, change management and customer service.  To compliment her change expertise, she also chaired many employee recognition and incentive/morale initiatives.  Tara is based in the Yankton, SD area and provides the skill set many organizations desire to enhance employee morale and communication efforts.
